Community Mediation, Inc.

Home | Resources | Project Profile

Community Mediation, Inc. receives a grant from teh Memorial Fund to support Conversations About Education throughout Connecticut. These local conversations are community-wide discussions that examine issues affecting children from preschool through high school (PK-12).

The goal of the Conversations is to improve outcomes for children and youth by involving more citizens in defining and supporting community priorities. Community Conversations About Education bring together approximately 100+ diverse community members. An opening plenary session introduces the topic and sets the stage for discussion. Participants break out into small discussion groups led by trained moderators. The small group discussions are the heart of the conversation. Together participants examine issues affecting children, youth, and families. The structure allows all participants to contribute to a constructive dialogue and for diverse experiences and perspectives to be shared in an open, "safe" environment. Trained recorders capture the essence of the conversation on flip chart notes. The discussions generate ideas and action steps. In the closing plenary, organizers invite participants to help with follow-up action plans. Findings from the Conversation are used to continue the work in various ways.
