Parents and Providers Show Support for Early Care and Education

Nearly a hundred parents met at the State Capitol building on April 11th in support of affordable, quality early care and education.  These parents and providers came together for an Advocacy Day at the Capitol, organized by CT Parent Power and the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance, to work on increasing access to quality early care and education programs, which includes infant, toddler and pre-school programs.

Legislators Beth Bye, Cathie Abercrombie and Christel Truglia spoke to participants about their support for increasing funding for early care and education.  Participants were also invited into the House Chamber by Speaker of the House Jim Amman.  Following the Speaker’s presentation, parents and providers visited their legislators to emphasize the importance of this issue.

Connecticut Parent Power and the Early Childhood Alliance will keep the momentum going over the next two months. In May legislators will be presented with hundreds of drawings by pre-school children about what they hope to be when they grow up. On June 4th parents will attend an Early Care Parent Recognition Dinner at the Capitol to honor the parents across the state who have taken a lead on early care and education issues.
